condom

condom: a sheath of latex, nitrile, polyisoprene, polyurethane or natural skin (lambskin) that is worn over the penis to reduce the risk of pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted infection (STI) during oral, anal or vaginal intercourse. condoms, also known as external condoms, prevent pre-ejaculatory (pre-cum) fluid or semen from entering a partner’s mouth, anus or vagina. Only latex, nitrile, polyisoprene and polyurethane condoms prevent STI transmission. Condoms—including those made of natural skin (lambskin)—prevent pregnancy about 98 percent of the time when they are used correctly and consistently. Condoms should never be reused.

clitoris

clitoris: a highly sensitive organ whose only function is sexual pleasure. The glans or head of the clitoris can be seen above the opening to the vagina. It looks like a smooth ball of pink flesh and is hidden by a hood of skin when a person is not aroused. While the glans of the clitoris can be seen on the vulva, the rest of the clitoris extends inside the body and branches into a wishbone shape. Direct stimulation of the clitoris can lead to orgasm in some women but can be uncomfortable for other women.

chlamydia

chlamydia: a bacterial sexually transmitted infection that often has no symptoms. When symptoms occur, they can include burning during urination, discharge and bleeding during intercourse for girls and pain during urination and a watery discharge for guys. Since chlamydia is a bacterial infection, it can be treated and cured with antibiotics.

cisgender

cisgender: a term that describes a person whose gender identity matches their sex assigned at birth

anus

anus: the opening from the rectum through which feces leave the body

anal sex

anal sex: Sexual behavior involving penetration of the anus by a penis or sex toy for sexual stimulation

AIDS

AIDS: a collection of symptoms that results from a person’s immune system being severely weakened, making them susceptible to other infections and illnesses. Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and may occur is HIV is untreated. People do not die from AIDS but from an infection their body acquires as a result of their weakened immune system.

age of consent

age of consent: the age when a person is legally able to consent to sexual behaviors. It varies from state to state, but ranges between 14 and 18 years of age

abortion

abortion: a medical procedure that ends a pregnancy. There are two types of abortions: surgical and medical. Surgical abortions are the most common in the United States and utilize a procedure called vacuum aspiration. Medical abortions, also called drug-induced abortions, involve taking medication that terminates a pregnancy.

heterosexual

heterosexual: a person who is romantically, emotionally and/or sexually attracted to people of a gender different from their own
